ParticipantI have to say by far this is my favorite article to read in this class. it was well organized in a way that a reader will get a better understand. At least I did. This piece is definitely informal. I never heard of the word Ethnographic or even know what it means until I read. Khan was very clear with all the information’s and examples he gave throughout . This remind me of the time I was a member at the US-Africa Ambassadorship program, we use go to different African events and right about our experiences, the diversity in culture and so on. I think the fact that I can relate somehow, actually made me enjoy reading Khan’s writing even more.

ParticipantI like the fact that, they introduce the author right in the beginning of the article because that help me understand a little about the author and his point of view base on the background information. while I was glancing through, I thought it will be something boring and will not interest me after all. however, it actually caught my attention in a way throughout. I never knew the word language can have all this different term. which I found very informative. I also like the examples the author gave to explain. I believe that’s what made me understand his point clearly. communication is very important in our everyday life, whether is at work place/school or even our social life. that’s what makes reading this article very important. Gee gave us a proper explaining on how a word can be determine base on where it was said or how it is used in communication. the only thing I didn’t really like about the article, I feel like it was too long which kind of throw me off around the end. overall it was an interesting article for me and I learn a lot from reading it.

ParticipantAfter reading this article, it somehow bring flashback in my head when I was young. growing up, I had a problem with understanding the meaning of many words whenever I’m reading. I tend to go look it up and go on a images for better visual. text with images indeed helps a lot, at least for people like me that have problems with reading and understanding the meanings. I totally I agreed that, one can get better understanding when reading a text that have pictures to go along with the story.
Even though I can relate in a way its mentioned in this article, I also find reading “picture text” to be somewhat boring. personally, I feel like the Article included too much information that makes one not to enjoy the reading. The author should have rearranged the writing style to make it more readable. apart from that its amazing how pictures can go hand and hand with text to for a better clarification for readers.
